Our History
1983 Michael D. Miller founded Capital Planning Corporation and registered it with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a Registered Investment Advisory firm. Michael's early career was solely focused on working with Boeing managers and executives. With this specialized approach, Michael began providing educational wealth management workshops for the Boeing Management Association. His client expertise now includes business owners, entrepreneurs, and high net worth families. Michael is also the leader of the investment committee. His corporate responsibilities consist of managing the strategic vision of the firm.
1985 Jim Kelley joined our firm and applied his uncommon analytical skills to expanding our investment and financial planning capabilities. Today, Jim serves as our president and COO. As president, Jim is responsible for the oversight of our firm. He also serves as a wealth advisor working with Boeing and Microsoft executives and high net worth families. Jim sits on the investment committee.
1990 David Dunn joined Capital Planning from PricewaterhouseCoopers. Today, David is an investment advisor representative of Capital Planning and is a member of the investment committee. David works with clients as a wealth advisor, providing services to Boeing managers, executives, and high net worth families.
1990 Capital Planning was selected and hired by The Boeing Company to provide wealth management workshops for their executives in Seattle, Washington; Wichita, Kansas; Huntsville, Alabama; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our corporate educational programs were later expanded to include Weyerhaeuser and Microsoft.
1991 Capital Planning selected Datalynx/Fiserv to serve as custodian for our investment advisory services. Their platform allowed for omnibus trading and institutional funds.
1991 Capital Planning formed a joint venture with Boeing Employees Credit Union, the largest financial cooperative in Washington State. Capital Planning advisors delivered investment and financial planning services to BECU members. In addition, customized educational wealth planning workshops were provided. Capital Planning divested of the joint venture in 2001.
1996 Brenda Lee joined our firm as a client service associate and now serves as a financial advisor. She is responsible for providing investment and financial planning services to a select group of clients.
2004 Capital Planning developed a family legacy consulting service based on industry best-practice principles. The FamilyPACT™ is a process that empowers families to create a thoughtful generational plan.
2007 Courtney Hanrahan joined the firm as a front office associate and now serves as a financial advisor. She works alongside Michael and is responsible for providing financial planning services to a select group of clients.
2008 Capital Planning selected Pershing Advisor Solutions, LLC to serve as custodian for investment advisory accounts.
2009 Capital Planning selected Envestnet Asset Management, Inc. to serve as a solution provider for investment manager research, portfolio administration: reporting, client account analytics, and aggregation services of investment accounts from multiple custodians, and web-based reporting of income, tax, and performance for client accounts.
2013 The business owner "MAST" (Mergers, Acquisitions, and Strategic Transitions) educational lunches were launched. Leading entrepreneurs and business owners share their personal stories of success and challenges in the growth and transition of their enterprises.
2013 The Capital Planning Charitable Fund was established to formalize our corporate giving to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
2014 Capital Planning, LLC was established and registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as the successor Registered Investment Advisor to Capital Planning Corporation. The change of corporate structure from an S Corp to an LLC better provided for our succession planning objectives.
2014 Capital Planning launched Knowledge Products for Boeing executives and managers. A planned series of investment and wealth planning educational videos launched to provide on-demand viewing of strategies that are most relevant to the Boeing professional.
2018 Capital Planning branded its services to Wealth Management a combination of Investment Management & Financial Planning services and expanded its Financial Planning & Consulting Service options.
2020 Capital Planning selected Charles Schwab, Inc to serve as custodian for investment advisory services.
2022 CP Connect was launched. An app that delivers a connected experience with an all-in-one suite of collaborative services providing for ease in accessing accounts, resource materials, market information, and advisory team members.
